& BERGHALL

In 2005 artists Berghall and Arkibullan architects won 1st prize for a
service-building complex for Gufunes cemetery in Reykjavik
.

The competition criteria involved designing spiritual spaces without fixed religious symbols, which could serve all regardless of religion. This in a way was key to how we began to look at nature and the environment on site for impressions and clues to inspire the project

STAFF HOUSE was completed in 2008
The building for the cemetery offices and staff housing in Gufunes Cemetary is the first building of several for Reykjavik's main cemetetry complex.
The phases yet to be built include a church, chapel, crematorium and assembly house.
