Winona Baker
Winona Baker won 100,000 yen (first) in the English section of
the Hoshi-to-mori Tanka Contest 2001, was the International
Prizewinner in the 1989 Basho haiku contest. Japan Airlines awarded
her Shikishi and Book prizes at Expo86. In 1994 the Romanian
Haiku Society gave her a Commemorative Medal and in
1997 an Award of Excellence for her paper presented at
a Symposium on Basho in Bucharest. The Croatian Haiku
Association presented her with an award in 97. Her poems have
been Poetry in Transit posters. She has won contests and
awards for haiku, humor, free verse, and sonnet forms of poetry
and written five books, her latest Even a Stone Breathes
ö Haiku and Senryu from Oolichan Press. She appeared in
over 50 anthologies in N. America, New Zealand, Japan and Europe.
Her work has been translated into Japanese, Croatian, French and
Romanian. She lives on Vancouver Island and has four grown children.
Last job- working and did readings at Thora and Jerry Howell's
bookstore.
