The Lost Horse Gallery was started by Alexander Zaklynsky and Agnar Agnarsson. We took over the building known as Nymork and restored it into a working and exhibition space. The building has a unique history and is one of the oldest surviving buildings in downtown Reykjavik. The building was first built to be a horse stable and barn. The Reykjavik government hired two people to collect lost or escaped horses and hold them in this building. It was like a car park for horses. One can still see where the individual horses stalls had been. Over the years the building was inhabited by various artisens from furniture makers to painters. The building is the perfect place to have exhibitions due to its central location in Reykjavik. We encourage artists to inquire about the spaces availability and to send proposals for Shows to TheLostHorse@hotmail.com.
