Presidentship

On October 30th 2004 I was elected President of the Federation of Icelandic Artists. Unfortunately this leaves me with little time to update my homepage as much as I’d like to.

In the meantime feel free to browse images taken on the opening night of my grand retrospective exhibition “I didn’t do it!” if you haven’t seen them yet.

Sorry, for the inconvenience!

MyPocket Productions

Our new company, MyPocket Productions, has opened here in Reykjavik. Currently we are a small company, with only three employees. Myself, my significant other, Helena, and our new employee María Erla. However, due to the versatility of our projects we tend to add on extra help when needed.

The projects are as exciting as they are many, ranging from script writing, teaching and lecturing to art exhibitions, short film direction and production. Lately I’ve also been increasing the consultation part of my work. I’ve been meeting groups from companies and giving lectures on creative thinking and self awareness. My intention is to have some sort of creative thinking workshop later this year, which will be open to everyone. Those who would like more details, feel free to email me at

Opening: I didn’t do it!

Feel free to browse images taken on the opening night of my grand retrospective exhibition in the Reykjavik Art Museum .

I didn’t do it!

The preparation for my exhibition at Reykjavik Art Museum is well on its way. As it should be since the opening is on Friday, June 11th at Hafnarhus.

It’s a large retrospective exhibition – a combination of new installations, old sketches and samples of silliness inspired from a long forgotten depth. I even joined forces with one of the biggest companies in Iceland, Icelandair, to explore how their portrayal of Iceland abroad, has affected our sense of self.

This will be a good opportunity to acquire some of my work, for this is a sales exhibition. One of our new products here at MyPocket Productions, and one which will also be for sale at Hafnarhúsid during the exhibition, is the t-shirt.

On Sunday, I will participate in an artist talk in the multi purpose hall at 15:00 with Agusta Kristofersdottir, the curator of the exhibition.

Hallormsstadur

I’m also participating in the project “Fantasy Island” at Hallormsstadaskogur, an exhibition which starts on June 19th and runs until June 26th. There are seven artists beside myself who participate in this exhibition of “fantasies in the forest” as someone called it. The other artists are Atelier Van Lieshout, Paul McCarthy, Jason Rhoades, Elin Wikström, Katrín Sigurðardóttir, Björn Roth and Hannes Lárusson.

My work consists of three different pieces. The first being replanted icelandic wildflowers in a tempting bed of colours. The second will assumed to be the tent of a dirty old man, and viewed as potential evidence. The third and final piece is a cottage of a grandmother, closed off as a crime scene.

Open Source

Other wonderful news is that Helena is working on her award winning production “Open Source”; a dance theatre that will be shown in Galway Arts Festival in Ireland and Gent Festival in Belgium. She and her group, Hallur Ingolfsson, Filippia Elisdottir, Elisabet Ronaldsdottir, Kari Halldor, Cameron Corbett and Johann Freyr Bjorgvinsson premiere on July 12th in Ireland and in Belgium on July 26th.

Last but not least

… I’ve made the resume/cv that makes sense to me. Here it goes:

Thorvaldur Thorsteinsson (2004) has always avoided becoming something. He has never made a realistic plan for his life or set himself a goal apart from doing what pleases him the most each day. This way he believes he can best help others in their search for themselves. Just like when the stewardess reminds us to put the oxygen mask first on ourselves before we assist our fellow passengers. Thorvaldur has thus on purpose avoided projects that will not maximize his own happiness.

Back in Iceland

I’ve not been updating anything lately, sorry for that.
I’ve been very busy as usual, but also moving and opening a new office for MyPocket Production in Reykjavik. New pages and more news will be available soon.

My exhibition “I Didn’t Do It” in Gothenburg Art Museum (Göteborgs Konsthall), opened March 13th.

Best wishes to you all,
Thorvaldur Thorsteinsson
